Day 1: Salalah Our exciting Tropical Paradise tour starts today. After you arrive at Salalah International Airport, you will be picked up by our representative outside the airport and transferred to your hotel. Time for you to get freshened up after your flight. In the afternoon, we proceed to visit the Museum of Frankincense Land in Salalah. Opened just 12 years ago in 2007 in Al Balid Archaeological Park which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Salalah, this Museum is the latest addition to Oman’s rich Heritage and Cultural scenario. (Opening Times: Sunday to Thursday from 8am to 2pm and 4pm to 8pm; Friday to Saturday from 2pm to 9pm) Majorly there are 2 halls, former being History Hall and latter, Marine Hall. History Hall depicts the geography, history of Frankincense trail and Oman’s rich historical background whereas the Marine Hall depicts the development and progress of Oman’s marine history. One could easily understand the complete history of Maritime Trade and Ship Building industry here through the intricately carved lifelike replicas of ancient boats and ships used in the Omani Maritime Trade. After the Museum Visit, we drive through the green vegetable and fruits plantations. You can opt to taste the refreshingly cool coconut water (at own expense) along the way of old Salalah Town (Haffah). Next stop will be the beautiful Sultan Qaboos Mosque. We also visit the official palace of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, Al Husn Palace and take some photos from outside before proceeding to Haffah Souq which is very famous for high quality Frankincense and other souvenirs. One can say that Haffah Souq is the place to go to get top quality frankincense from Salalah and other good quality souvenirs for taking back home. We will know that we have come to the right place as the souq will get filled with the smell of frankincense and the shops are arranged very attractively and you can view lots of incense boxes of various qualities and incense burners decorated intricately with traditional patterns and incense crystals also for sale. Shop as you like before finishing the tour and time for your transfer back to hotel. Overnight at hotel. Day 2: East & West Salalah Excursion: After a hearty breakfast at hotel, we start our tour in the morning by visiting the village of Taqah which is a fishing village famous for its manufacturing of dried sardines and traditional dhofari houses. We visit the Taqah Castle where the governor or ‘Wali’ had his former official residence. Taqah Castle is an excellent example of rich historical tradition of the region. Next up we visit the city of Sumhuram/Khor Rohri. This city served as the easternmost outpost for the ancient Incense route between Mediterranean Sea, Persian Gulf and India. This city was considered as one of the most important cities for the trading of Frankincense. We drive through picturesque locations in between to reach the city of ‘Mirbat’, capital of Dhofar. Frankincense trail commences from Mirbat. We see old omani mud houses and twin domed Bin Ali’s Tomb. On the way back, we visit the natural springs of Ayn Razat which is nourished every day of the year by underground spring water. Take some pics here and then we proceed to Qara Mountains to explore Salalah’s western part. We can view herds of camels and cattle which provide much better change in view as you will be interacting with beauty of Dhofar as locals do. Next up we visit the Prophet Job’s tomb. Its set in the scenic green and lush mountains of Salalah Plains. For those unaware of Prophet Job and his doings, there are small pamphlets by which you can get to know in detail. Now it time for us to relax in the Mughsail beach with natural blow holes with cave like entrance. On the way back, we will continue on hair pin bend road towards Oman’s Western border and you will be awed at the scenic beauty of the landscape with breathtaking cliffs on either side and frankincense trees growing in their natural habitat along the valleys and countryside. When we walk in between frankincense trees, we will get the holy incense smell whilst enjoying the smell. We also stop at the lagoon in mughsail beach to view migratory birds like flamingos and later return back to hotel for overnight stay. Day 3: Transfer back home: Today we check out of the hotel as per our flight timings and your driver will drop you off at the airport for your flight to Muscat.
