Our Serene Salalah City Tour will take us through the history of Salalah and Oman and experience us the amazing aromas of different types of Frankincense and stroll through the amazing souqs to fulfil our shopping requirements as well as having a relaxing drive through the lush greenery and visit Sultan’s Palace and Sultan Qaboos Mosque for some amazing photos to include in your memories !

We start out tour by 8:30am and the first stop in the tour will be Museum of Frankincense Land situated in Al Balid Archaeological Park which is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site. This museum is just 12 years old and opened to public on July 2007 only. Its useful to note the timings as its open from Sun-Thursday from 8am – 2pm and then the entry resumes from 4pm – 8pm. On Fridays and Saturdays timings are a bit different from 2pm – 9pm. It has 2 main halls, notably History Hall and Marine Hall. As name suggests, the former one details the geography, history of frankincense trail and how sultanate developed through varied archaeological findings over the years and the latter have several displays which explains the country’s rich and varied Marine History. Replicas of ancient boats and ships used in Omani Maritime trade can be viewed here. After finishing the tour, we make our way through green plantations of vegetables and fruits. You can opt to try out the excellent fresh coconut water from any of the fruit stalls on the way (at extra cost) along the old Salalah Town. We stop at Sultan Qaboos Mosque for photostop followed by visiting Al Husn Palace which is the official palace of His Majesty the Sultan and take some pics. We visit the old haffah souq which is a place to go for purchase of high quality frankincense and other souvenirs from Dhofar. You will get to know the different aromas of frankincense based on quality as the souq will be full of it. Tons of incense boxes, clay incense burners all of which will be colourfully decorated and having intricate patterns and bags upon bags of incense crystals will be lined up in the small shops throughout the Haffah Souq. Shop all you need and once shopping is done with, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
